Stutors Academic Tutoring

The Stutors Academic Tutoring program emphasizes sound academic planning and study skills development. We encourage students to approach each course holistically: look at what you need to accomplish this semester and make a plan to work toward those goals. By establishing a steady schedule of lessons and practice, we can address both immediate needs and longer-term academic needs. This cumulative learning helps students gain a deeper understanding of the material - and retain that knowledge.

Goals

  • Practice sound academic planning so you have time to do your best work.

  • Master course concepts and skills, and learn how to study this subject.

  • Build effective study habits that will serve you for a lifetime.

METHODS

We'll start by helping you with your homework, but we will be encouraging you to do more and more of your work before lessons. This allows us to spend time reviewing challenging material, studying for exams, preparing for projects and papers, and even previewing the next topic to prepare for lectures. You’ll be building the study habits you'll need to succeed in college!

  • We follow your course curriculum - supplementing lessons with content-enriching discussion and practice to deepen your understanding.

  • We show you how to use study skills in the context of your coursework so you can integrate them into your own system.

  • We provide detailed lesson notes, highlighting key concepts to support your practice between lessons.

Communication: Parents can stay in touch with the learning process and monitor progress by reading lesson notes, sharing information from teachers, and supporting students at home. We are always here to discuss questions, concerns, and emerging needs via phone, e-mail, or in person.

Schedule and Tuition

Academic skill - just like athletic skill - is built, strengthened, and maintained through consistent practice. We are here to help for as long as you need - whether that's just four weeks or for the full school year- but you must meet at least once a week to participate in the program. We recommend:

  • 1 lesson per week per subject to stay on top of the material, gain a deeper understanding, and prepare for tests

  • 2 or 3 lessons per week for students who start mid-semester and want to raise a grade

  • 3-5 lessons per week for students who've fallen behind

One-to-one Academic Tutoring

$96.00 / hour

  • No enrollment fee.

Tuition Package: 12 hours for $1,056.00

Buy 11 hours and we'll make it a dozen! ($88.00 / hour)

Note: We do not teach on just an emergency basis right before tests.

Call us to get started!

We came to Stutors in 2010 to get help for our daughter, a freshman at Gunn. At the beginning of the semester she was struggling in math, science, and English. She ended up with straight As as her final grades for the year. Taylor and Robin were not only expert in their subject areas, they were delightful to work with. Our daughter actually looked forward to her Stutor sessions every week!
